Health Level Seven’s Chinese Affiliate Publishes Translation of Version 2.4 Messaging Standard
ANN ARBOR, Mich.⎯March 23, 2005—HL7 China has announced that it has translated Version 2.4 of the HL7
messaging standard and is now making it available to the Chinese market. HL7 China, which was established in May
2000, joins other HL7 international affiliates in providing language translations of the standards to their country
constituents.
“We are very happy that HL7 China has completed the Chinese translation of HL7 Version 2.4 and can now make it
available to its healthcare sector,” said HL7 Board Chair Mark Shafarman. “This is an important example of the
significant contributions that HL7’s International Affiliates are making, which help to position HL7 as a truly global
standard.”
“It is our honor to translate HL7 Version 2.4 into Chinese, and introduce it to Chinese Healthcare Information
Partners,” said Zijun Zhou, the chair of HL7 China. “We believe the Chinese translation version of this HL7 standard
will help Chinese hospitals as well as the healthcare information industry in general.”
The Chinese translation of HL7 Version 2.4 will be made available free of charge to members of HL7 China and will
be available for sale by non-members via the HL7 China online bookstore at
www.HL7.cn, which is currently under
construction.
HL7’s Version 2.4 received approval as an American National Standard in October 2000. The HL7 Version 2
Messaging Standard — Application Protocol for Electronic Data Exchange in Healthcare Environments — is
considered to be the workhorse of data exchange in healthcare and is the most widely implemented standard for
healthcare information in the world.
Since the release of Version 2.4 in 2000, HL7 Version 2.5 was approved by ANSI in June 2003 and released. HL7’s
Version 2.5 Messaging Standard is available to HL7 members for download at the “Members Only” section of the
HL7 Web site (
www.HL7.org). A copy of the most recent standard on CD-ROM was sent to all HL7 members free of
